Ken Sawyer

Managing Director and Co-Founder

Mr. Sawyer is a Managing Director and Co-founder at Saints Capital. He has been selected as a member of the Forbes Midas list for several years, where he was recognized as one of the top 100 investors in venture capital globally.

Before co-founding Saints’ direct secondary activities with Mr. Quinlivan in 2000, Mr. Sawyer was the Head of Strategic Advisory Services and Mergers and Acquisitions at Volpe Brown Whelan & Co., a privately-held investment bank focused on emerging growth companies in the technology and healthcare industries. While at Volpe, Mr. Sawyer advised over 100 companies on strategic issues, assisted in completing over 50 M&A transactions totaling several billion dollars, assisted in completing several strategic private placements and IPOs, and reviewed and approved over 50 IPOs of internet and technology companies as a member of the Commitment Committee. Mr. Sawyer grew his department’s revenue by over eight times in his three years at Volpe Brown Whelan & Co.

Prior to working at Volpe Brown Whelan & Co., Mr. Sawyer was a Partner at Colman Partners and a Principal at Colman Furlong & Co. Mr. Sawyer also has operating experience as the CFO of New Image Industries, a publicly traded digital imaging company. He also has operating experience as a founder and CEO of several small private companies. Mr. Sawyer began his career at Morgan Stanley & Co.

Mr. Sawyer received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BS with honors in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. At Stanford, Mr. Sawyer was elected as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi honor societies. Mr. Sawyer also studied in France, Washington, D.C., and at the Copenhagen School of Business in Denmark.

    Managing Partner

    Mr. Quinlivan is a Managing Director at Saints Capital.  Before co-founding Saints with Mr. Sawyer in 2000, Mr. Quinlivan was the Senior Vice President of Finance at InsWeb, a publicly traded company providing online insurance solutions. While at InsWeb, Mr. Quinlivan was integrally involved in the company’s fundraising efforts, including its initial public offering and played a key role in the areas of corporate development and corporate strategy.  Mr. Quinlivan was previously an investment banker at Credit Suisse First Boston with its Mergers and Acquisitions and Technology Groups. At CSFB, Mr. Quinlivan completed domestic and international transactions valued at over $10 billion in a wide variety of industries including technology, retail and consumer products.  He has also worked at the LEK Consulting Group, an international management consulting firm, providing strategic advice in the consumer technology, media, healthcare and transportation industries.

    Mr. Quinlivan received an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA, cum laude, in Physics from Harvard University.  He received an MS in Physics from UCLA, where he also attended doctoral studies in solid state physics.  Mr. Quinlivan is the lead author of published scientific research on the electrical properties of high temperature

      Mr. Keppler is the Chief Financial Officer at Saints Capital.  Before joining Saints in 2007, he was CFO of Centennial Ventures for ten years.  Centennial Ventures managed over $1 billion of capital. Prior to Centennial, Mr. Keppler worked for 18 years at Total Petroleum (North America) LTD., a multi-billion dollar public petroleum company, departing as a senior financial officer of the company. He began his career as a certified public accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

      Mr. Keppler received a BA in Business from Capital University. He also completed the Executive Management Development Program at the University of Virginia Graduate Business School, and the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Denver.

              Ms. Montag joined Saints Capital in 2015 as a portfolio analyst. Before joining Saints, Ms. Montag worked at Townsend Group, a real assets consulting firm, where she aided a team that advised public pensions, an Australian superannuation and a family office on their real estate investment strategy.                 Ms. Montag joined Saints Capital in 2015 as a portfolio analyst.                   Mr. Catling provides services in connection with the Saints Chamonix Fund. Prior to Saints, Mr. Catling worked for Energis, a turnaround UK telecom provider, and subsequently for Cable and Wireless, after it acquired Energis. Mr. Catling performed a number of roles, including Strategy Analysis for the CFO’s Business Planning team, and commercial Product Management for the company’s Data Networks offering. During this time, he was also the Chairman of the Industy Wholesale Ethernet Pricing Workstream, leading negotiations on behalf of nine companies to secure price reductions on the wholesale provision of commerical Ethernet services, overseen by the regulator, Ofcom. Mr. Catling was also responsible for implementing an end-to-end Capex governance process across the merged company, controlling a £240m annual budget. Prior to joining Energis, Mr. Catling worked in both London and Tokyo for ABN AMRO within Equity Research.

                  Mr. Catling was awarded a Distinction in his MBA from Oxford University’s Said Business School, and earned a First Class honors masters degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University.

                    Ms. Crawford provides services in connection with the Saints Chamonix Fund.  Prior to joining Saints Chamonix, Ms. Crawford spent 21 years working for 3i, the global Private Equity and Venture Capital firm. She spent eight years as a Managing Director, and six years as a Director of 3iplc, in the UK, Asia / Japan, and in Germany.  Ms. Crawford is an advisor and IC member of Steadfast Capital, a German mid-market buyout fund, and has held many previous outside Board positions including Chair of the Audit Committee on the Singapore Infocomms Development, the Regulatory Board of the Singapore Stock Exchange and the New Issuers Board of the German Stock Exchange (the Deutsche Boerse).

                    Ms. Crawford received a BA with honors in Philosophy from Manchester University and is qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse in London.

                      Mr. Redmond provides services in connection with the Saints Rustic Fund.   Prior to joining Rustic Canyon, Mr. Redmond managed investments and advisory work for Professor Clayton Christensen at Harvard Business School. Previously, he co-founded an internet infrastructure company and helped launch two other early web companies. Mr. Redmond began his career with the Boston Consulting Group as a consultant to technology firms on new product development and business strategy.

                      Mr. Redmond received an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MSE and BSE from The University of Michigan College of Engineering, where he was an Entrepreneurial Fellow in the Engineering Global Leadership Honors Program.

                        Mr. Unterman provides services in connection with the Saints Rustic Fund.   Mr. Unterman has been a partner at Rustic Canyon since 1999 after a long career as a corporate executive and prior to that, a corporate lawyer. He continues to serve as Managing Partner. From 1992 through 1999, he held several executive positions at the Times Mirror Company, most recently as its Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Times Mirror, he was a partner of the law firm of Morrison & Foerster LLP, where he joined after serving as a partner of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.

                        Mr. Unterman received a JD from the University of Chicago and a BA from Princeton University. Mr. Unterman currently serves on the boards of the California Community Foundation, The Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, The Public Library of Science, Heal the Bay and Pacific Community Ventures.

Prior to Volpe, Ms. Murray was a Managing Director and Co-Head of Healthcare investment banking for Wheat First Securities. Ms. Murray was also a Senior Vice President at Dean Witter Reynolds in its healthcare group. She is a previous member of the University of Virginia McIntire School’s Advisory Board.

                          Ms. Murray received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS from the University of Virginia.

As co-head of the health practice at Morgan Stanley Ventures, Mr. Halsted managed over $300 million of investments in over 40 companies, and was responsible for making growth equity investments in emerging healthcare companies. Before his investment career, Mr. Halsted worked in the medical technology field in the areas of product design and business development for Intermedics Orthopedics and Hexcel Medical.

                            Mr. Halsted received his MM degree from Northwestern University and his AB degree from Dartmouth College. He also received a BE degree in Biomechanical Engineering from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College.

From 1977 to 1991 he was at 3i, as a Director of 3i plc and Chief Executive of 3i’s consultancy subsidiary, leading the part of the business that provided turnaround and value development support to 3i’s investments and those of other private equity investors. Before that Mr. Edge spent six years in British Leyland (motor industry) and Philips Electronics in finance and commercial roles, latterly dealing with non-UK activities.

                              Mr. Edge received an LLM from Oxford and London Universities, and is qualified in the United Kingdom as a Chartered Management Accountant and Chartered Secretary. In addition, he is qualified as a Management Consultant both in the UK and internationally.

                                Mr. Friend provides services in connection with the Saints Capital Dakota Fund.  Mr. Friend is an experienced software investor, working with companies from startup through IPO and beyond. Past investments and board responsibilities include Salesforce.com, Check Point Software, NetDynamics, 3dfx Interactive, GetThere, Inc., Blue Martini Software, and MediaQ. He was also a founding investor in Acta Technology, where he worked with the technical founders from conception to over $25 million in revenue prior to acquisition by Business Objects.  Mr. Friend started his venture capital career in 1988 at Charles River Ventures in Boston. Since 1994, he has served as a General Partner at USVP and Summit Partners, and as a Venture Partner at Partech International. Earlier in his career, Mr. Friend was Director of Product Marketing at Channel Computing, Product Manager at Microsoft and Member of the Technical Staff at The Aerospace Corporation.

                                Mr. Friend received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA and MA in Electrical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
